The Death of Death
Someday, when Jesus Christ returns, He will finally put an end to death as the Apostle John writes in the Book of Revelation where he says, “death shall be no more” (Rev 21:4). The reason that death has no more power over the believer is because of Jesus Who says, “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live” (John 11:25).
The End of Sorrow
The Apostle John also adds some very encouraging words for us from the Book of Revelation that God “will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away” (Rev 21:4) and that means the end of all suffering, pain, sorrow, crying, mourning, and even death, the cause of much sorrow.
The Destruction of Evil
God promises to destroy all evil someday and as the psalmist wrote, “He will bring back on them their iniquity and wipe them out for their wickedness; the LORD our God will wipe them out” (Psalm 94:23) and that “He will return the evil to my enemies; in your faithfulness put an end to them” (Psalm 54:5).
The Resurrection of the Believer
The Prophet Daniel speaks of a day when we will be resurrected and all those who have gone before us and those of us yet to leave this earth will see a great resurrection but for some it will be a tragic one as Daniel writes that “many of those who sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt” (Dan 12:2) but “those who are wise shall shine like the brightness of the sky above; and those who turn many to righteousness, like the stars forever and ever” (Dan 12:3).
Conclusion
Jesus tells us why the gospel is such good news by saying that “everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die” (John 11:26), with that being understood as being saved to eternal life. He puts an end to death for us; He will someday end all sorrow and suffering; He will utterly destroy all the wicked; and he will raise the believers into glory while those who have rejected Christ, He will raise to utter shame and contempt.
