Here are 5 Great Bible Stories about the Love of God

A Sacrificial Love – John 3

Who could have done more to save us than Jesus Christ?  No human could have saved us.  It took God Himself, so what God demanded (a perfect sacrifice), God provided (through Jesus Christ), so it is true that “God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16 ).

Dying for Sinners – Romans 5

God didn’t give us what we deserved (His wrath) but what we needed (grace and mercy), and this was nothing less than a divine act of love.  God tells us in His Word that He loves us, but “God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8).  Do we need any further proof about God’s love for us?

Rejoicing over You – Zephaniah 2

How often have we rejoiced over things like the birth of a child or someone was healed, and yet here is God rejoicing over us with love, and even with “loud singing!” Can you even imagine what God’s singing voice must be like?  Even so, Scripture tells us that “The Lord your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; he will rejoice over you with gladness; he will quiet you by his love; he will exult over you with loud singing” (Zephaniah 2:17).

Abiding Love – 1 John 4

In this world, many people fall in and out of love and change their mind like the winds change direction, but God’s love is not wavering or dependent upon our actions or circumstance.  God’s love is unconditional for the person who has trusted in Christ.  This is how “we have come to know and to believe the love that God has for us. God is love, and whoever abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him” (1 John 4:16).  God doesn’t change His mind about us as change our minds about others, so praise Him for this abiding and enduring love.

A Visible Love – 1 John 3

Love is something you cannot really see inside the person, but you can see the byproducts of that love, and so the Apostle John writes, “See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are. The reason why the world does not know us is that it did not know him” (1 John 3:1).  The world will hate us because we love Christ, but it doesn’t matter what the world thinks about us…it only matters what God thinks about us. If you are loved by the Father, you’ll be hated by the world.

So Great a Love – Ephesians 2

God made the first move…He loved us before we ever loved Him (1 John 4:19), and His love is so great that Jesus willingly died for us while we were still wicked, ungodly enemies of His (Romans 5:6-10), but that is because “God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved” (Ephesians 2:4-5).
