3 Ways To Live For Christ

“We ought to be living as if Jesus died yesterday, rose this morning, and is coming back this afternoon.”

– Adrian Rogers

Just as if He had Died

If we live our lives today as if Jesus had just died yesterday, we will live for Him more effectively today. For those who have trusted in Christ, it was just like yesterday for them because He died for them, and even though that was over 2,000 years ago, the born-again child of God can look back at the atonement of Jesus’ death that reconciled them back to God, and the sins that had previously separated them (and us) from God (Isaiah 64:6) are now all washed away. Halleluiah!

Just as if He’d Risen

Since we have died with Christ, we will be raised with Christ to new life in Him. It was “while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly” (Rom 5:6) and since “we have died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him” (Rom 6:8), so “you also have died to the law through the body of Christ, so that you may belong to another, to him who has been raised from the dead, in order that we may bear fruit for God” (Rom 7:4).

As if He’s Coming Back Today

We should live today like Jesus is coming back at any moment, and He might. If we are getting bogged down in Bible prophecy, we are taking our eyes off of Him and looking at events instead of fixing our eyes on the Author and Finisher of our faith (Heb 12:2), and of course that is Jesus Christ the Lord God and Savior, and soon coming King of kings and Lord of lords.

Conclusion

The late Adrian Rogers advice is exactly what we need to read, because we must live with the expectation that Jesus could come back at any moment, and will come at a time when most do not expect Him too. This gives us even more urgency to share the gospel and to call out to the Lord while it is still today. Today is the day of salvation, if you’re not already saved, because we have no guarantee of tomorrow ever coming.
