Mountains Into the Sea
When Jesus said if we only believe, we can pray to have mountains removed and be cast into the sea, but instead of taking this literally, He likely meant what seems like an insurmountable problem (the mountain) can be cast away like a stone thrown into the sea (by praying with faith). This is why Jesus said, “whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be taken up and thrown into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that what he says will come to pass, it will be done for him” (Mark 11:23).
Dead to the Living
Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead after he had been dead four days, but before this, He prayed, “Father, I thank you that you have heard me. I knew that you always hear me, but I said this on account of the people standing around, that they may believe that you sent me” (John 11:42-43), so what is a more gigantic problem than death? It’s nothing to God because we too were once dead in our sins (Eph 2:1), “But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved” (Eph 2:4-5).
Nothing’s Impossible
Things might seem impossible to us, but “nothing will be impossible with God” (Luke 1:37), so don’t “be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God” (Phil 4:6), since “The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working” (James 5:16). If you’re facing an insurmountable problem in your life that seems like a mountain, do what the psalmist did. He says, I cried out “In my distress I called upon the Lord; to my God I cried for help. From his temple he heard my voice, and my cry to him reached his ears” (Psalm 18:6).
Conclusion
The reason that prayer alone will overcome the gigantic difficulties is because of the One Who we prayer to. Our prayers can move mountains and we know that prayer can do the impossible (for us), because nothing is impossible for God. Now, tap that power of God through prayer.
