The Real Supreme Court
The Supreme Court of the United States is not the highest court there is, because God reigns over mankind and does what He pleases, and even uses evil for His own good (Gen 50:20), so don’t think the laws of man have the final say. In time, God’s kingdom will usurp mankind’s kingdom and He will finally rule over mankind, so where mankind rules, God overrules. Where the Supreme Court has a say, God has the final word.
Obeying Man’s Laws
The Apostle Paul always taught that we should obey the laws of the land and only when they conflict with the law of God can we break them, because authorities are “God’s servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword in vain. For he is the servant of God, an avenger who carries out God’s wrath on the wrongdoer” (Rom 13:4). This is why “one must be in subjection, not only to avoid God’s wrath but also for the sake of conscience” (Rom 13:5).
God’s Laws
When the apostles were arrested for proclaiming the gospel of Jesus Christ, they weren’t really breaking any law. It was only the Jewish leaders who were jealous over the apostle’s God-given success that bothered them. The church was growing and they wanted to stop it in its tracks, so when they were told to not preach the gospel anymore, the Apostle Peter said, “We must obey God rather than men” (Acts 5:29), so they kept preaching the gospel because God is Who they had to obey and not mankind.
God-Given Rights
Today, there is a frontal attack on freedom of religion. Instead of protecting religion from the government, the government is bent on protecting the nation from religion, and this is not what the first amendment was written for. The First Amendment, rather than keeping religion out of society, is to “prohibit the making of any law respecting an establishment of religion, impeding the free exercise of religion” so instead of the separation of church and state, it’s became the separation of church from the state, which was never the original intent of the first amendment.
Conclusion
Roy Moore, in saying “If God gives you rights, no man and no government can take them away from you,” indicates that He knew Who was sovereign over the earth; that we must obey God’s laws over mankind’s laws when they conflict with one another; that we are under obligation to obey God over man; and that what rights God has given us to preach the gospel, no human court has the authority to stop.
