It’s Always Best
When my children were young, they asked for things that were not good for them, and in fact, they asked for things that could hurt them or someone else. After they became adults, they finally understood that what they asked for was usually not what they needed. I knew better, and so we must always trust that God that He always knows what’s best for us, better than we do ourselves. That’s because He knows all there is to know.
Ours is Uncertain
If we only had our own strength and resources to do depend on, we’d be in big trouble. That’s why we must ask God for our daily bread, to forgive us of our sins as we do the same for others, and to deliver us from the evil one (Matt 6:7-13). When the psalmist was uncertain, and didn’t know what to do, he cried out, “Hear my prayer, O Lord; let my cry come to you” (Psalm102:1), and “Do not hide your face from me in the day of my distress! Incline your ear to me; answer me speedily in the day when I call” (Psalm 102:2). That should be our “go-to” plan when we are in times of uncertainty.
Created for This
God has actually created us to glorify Him and the Son of God, Jesus Christ, and what better way to do that than to walk in the works that God has long ago prepared for us to do (Eph 2:10)? We weren’t saved by works but we were saved for works. If God doesn’t want us to do something, He wouldn’t have prepared good works ahead of time for us to walk in, and we know that He has.
God’s Will and Ours
When Jesus was teaching the disciples how to pray, He emphasized that we should be praying for God’s will to be done here on earth as it already is being done in heaven (Matt 6:10). We shouldn’t want to do what God doesn’t want us to do, but we should be doing what He had planned for us to do, so let our will become His will, and then we’ll know for sure we’re in the will of God.
Conclusion
We can trust a God that always knows what’s best for us and what’s best for us to do; we can trust Him when we are uncertain about our circumstances or the future and we can pray for His help; therefore, we should remember that we were created for good works long ago, before we even existed; and so let us strive to align our wills with His and the way to know God’s will is to read God’s Word.
