Salvation
What greater thing could ever happen to a person than to receive the Holy Spirit and be saved? If we pray to God for forgiveness and plead to Him for mercy, He will hear and answer our prayer. That is no coincidence of course. If we don’t repent of our sins and confess them and then put our trust in Christ, then the wrath of God would still be on us. That is a potent power of prayer, to be sure.
The Power of God
When we pray to God we have access to the power of God. This doesn’t mean we ourselves have this power because we are finite, weak creatures, but when we are heard by God, He has the omnipotent power available to answer our prayers, and time, distance, or space cannot prevent what He has determined to do.
Miracles
When Joshua and Israel were trying to defeat her enemies, they had them on the run but daylight was running out, so “Joshua said to the Lord in the presence of Israel,” and he prayed, “Sun, stand still over Gibeon, and you, moon, over the Valley of Aijalon” (Joshua 10:12), “So the sun stood still, and the moon stopped, till the nation avenged itself” (Joshua 10:13). That is proof positive of the power of prayer.
Moving Mountains
Jesus wanted His disciples to know that even a little faith is still enough to move mountains as He said, “Because of your little faith. For truly, I say to you, if you have faith like a grain of mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move, and nothing will be impossible for you” (Matt 17:20). It is impossible without faith, since we can’t even please God if we have no faith (Heb 11:6).
Conclusion
William Temple is correct in saying, “When I pray, coincidences happen, and when I don’t, they don’t,” and this includes our salvation, accessing the power of God through prayer, including miracles that can move mountains, and that includes you too! The question is, “Do you believe it?”
