Hearing Our Voice – Psalm 55

David was a man of prayer, and most of his psalms can even be used to pray back to God,  like Psalm 55 where David says, “Evening and morning and at noon I utter my complaint and moan, and he hears my voice” (Psalm 55:17).  It’s reassuring to know God hears our voice and listens to our problems.  He is there, evening and morning, and noon and night.

Creating a Clean Heart – Psalm 51

If we are living in sin, God will not answer our prayer, but if we are confessing them and asking God to forgive them, we can be like the psalmist in the greatest prayer of repentance found in Scripture.  David wrote, “Hide your face from my sins, and blot out all my iniquities. Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me” (Psalm 51:9-10).  He can and will create a new or clean heart in us “and renew a right spirit within” us.  God desires our repentance and confession.

Confessing Your Sins – 1 John 1

One of the greatest promises in the Bible is that “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9).  And “all unrighteousness” means all of our sins…cleansed from us forever, but we must humble ourselves and fall before our God and confess our sins.  Only then can He “cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

Praying all Night – Luke 6

Just before Jesus chose His disciples, He spent all night praying.  This was a very important decision, so it was that “In these days he went out to the mountain to pray, and all night he continued in prayer to God” (Luke 6:12). It was so important to Jesus that He was willing to stay up all night and pray…and that’s what we can do when we’re faced with something that is important in our lives.

Help in Prayer – Romans 8

I don’t know about you, but sometimes I have trouble finding the right words when praying to God.  When I’m faced with overwhelming issues, I don’t even know how to phrase my prayers to God, but there’s help available.  The Apostle Paul wrote, “Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words” (Romans 8:26).  The Spirit can intercede for us when we don’t even know how to pray or what to pray for.  Ask the Spirit for His help and He will.

Pray without Ceasing

Praying in the evening is just as important as praying in the morning and noontime.  Prayer should be a constant thing in our lives.  We need prayer just as much as in the morning as we do in the evening, so pray always and without ceasing and God will hear and He will answer (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18).
