World’s Best 15 Bible Verses About Work
Work is a good thing, even if it doesn’t feel like it at the time, so to show that work is God’s will, here are the world’s best 15 Bible verses about work.
5 Stories From The Bible About Work
Here are 5 stories from the Bible about the working Christian.
Unto the Lord
Concerning our jobs, the Apostle Paul said, “Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men” (Colossians 3:23). Whatever we do, either a poor job or one that is commendable before God, we are doing it for Him more than for an earthly employer. Our employers are accountable before God just as we are before God and our employer, so whatever we do, we had better do it “heartily, as for the Lord and not for men,” for it is from the Lord our rewards will come.
All Your Might
The Wisdom of Solomon teaches us that “Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with your might, for there is no work or thought or knowledge or wisdom in Sheol, to which you are going” (Ecclesiastes 9:10). Once a person is passed from this earth, their time of physical labor is passed, so the best advice is that whatever your hand finds to do, just give it all you’ve got. Make the best effort you can and God will bless it. Even if you’re employer never sees your hard work, God does, and He’s the only One that counts.
Holy Vocation
One Christian man I know has Proverbs 16:3 on a plaque in his office and it reads: “Commit your work to the Lord, and your plans will be established.” He tells his employees, if there’s doubt, leave it out, or don’t do something that goes against your conscience. To admit an honest mistake is ten times better than covering it up, only to be discovered later, so tell the truth. Your job is a holy vocation. God in His sovereignty has chosen to place you wherever you are. Make the best of it, even if it’s a bad situation. God is pleased with this.
Slackers
There was a man who I worked with that everyone called a slacker. He intentionally made his job slow. He took his time to the point where it looked like he was milking it so he wouldn’t have to work that hard. Later I found out that this man is prone to seizures and has to work slowly or he risks having another seizure. He had a reason to go slow, but “Whoever is slack in his work is a brother to him who destroys” (Proverbs 18:9)? Who does the slacker destroy? Perhaps it is his family, his friendships, his co-worker’s relationships, and perhaps even his employer.
Heavenly Rewards
Today we work, but not necessarily for earthly rewards since these will all pass away. We do as unto the Lord (Matthew 25:4) the things He commands us to do to others (Matthew 25:35-36, 28:18-20; John 13:34-35), but our rewards won’t be a 401-K or a retirement party. It will be assignments given to us according to our faithfulness on earth. However faithful we were on earth with what we had, there will be infinitely greater responsibility in the kingdom.
