Top 14 Bible Verses About Acceptance
God accepts us for who we are, as long as we come to Him with true hearts and make an effort, with His help, to do the right thing. We should also reach out and continually show love to others by accepting them as well. As humans, sometimes we struggle to accept others, especially if they are a different ethnic background or follow a different religion, or maybe even if they sin in a different way than you or I sin.
Here are our top 14 Bible verses about acceptance to study and help you learn how to better accept people through the eyes of the Lord.
5 Stories From The Bible About Acceptance
Here are 5 stories from the Bible that relate to Acceptance.
Accepting Leaders
The Apostle Paul wrote to the church at Corinth that he was sending Titus, telling them that Titus “not only accepted our appeal, but being himself very earnest he is going to you of his own accord” (2 Corinthians 8:7). Titus was eager to go of his own free will, so in Paul, in sending Titus and another brother, wanted them to give these men full acceptance and the hand of fellowship.
Accepting Others
Since we’ve been accepted by God through Jesus Christ, “Therefore welcome one another as Christ has welcomed you, for the glory of God” (Romans 15:7). If God has opened heaven’s gate for us, we ought to remember that our brothers and sisters are going there too. If God has accepted them, then we out to accept them too. Remember, they have to accept us too!
Accept it Not
Many people can hear error the moment it’s heard. We cannot accept any teaching, whether it’s new or old, if it’s contrary to Scripture. I’ve discovered that “If it’s new, it’s not from God; if it’s from God, it’s not new,” and I think that’s true, so “If anyone comes to you and does not bring this teaching, do not receive him into your house or give him any greeting, for whoever greets him takes part in his wicked works” (2 John 1:10-11).
Accept it Gladly
On the other hand, we are to embrace those who teach the pure, unadulterated Word of God. The Apostle Paul said that “we also thank God constantly for this, that when you received the word of God, which you heard from us, you accepted it not as the word of men but as what it really is, the word of God, which is at work in you believers” (1 Thessalonians 2:13). Be the Bereans…search the Scriptures, and then embrace it as truth.
Judging Others
If we are to judge, we must be careful. We can’t know the human heart, and all too often, we get it wrong, therefore, Jesus said, “Judge not, that you be not judged. For with the judgment you pronounce you will be judged, and with the measure you use it will be measured to you” (Matthew 7:1-2). If our standards are higher for others than ourselves, we’re walking around with a log beam in our eye and that will cloud our vision of others (Matthew 7:3-5).
I’m just glad that God accepted us in Jesus Christ. We were accepted by the Beloved by the sinless life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ (1 Corinthians 15:1-5). God did not give us what we deserved, but rather, He gave us what we needed. God accepts us only because of what Jesus Christ did for us. If you’ve never trusted in Christ, then you have a day of judgment coming; either at Jesus’ return (Revelation 20:12-15), or after death (Hebrews 9:27). That’s why today is called the day of salvation (2 Corinthians 6:2), and not “tomorrow.”
