Three Reasons To Be Joyful When The World Says You Shouldn’t Be

Billy Sunday’s quote that Christians with no joy have a leak in their Christianity is a powerful summation of the book of Galatians’ teachings on the fruit of the spirit. When a person is born again in Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit enters that person’s life and, through faith, gives rise to character traits. These traits, called ‘fruit of the Holy Spirit’ are love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Joy is a fruit of the Holy Spirit and it is a much-needed one at that. The world can be a depressing and discouraging place to live in. However, the Holy Spirit’s joy enables us to experience joy that doesn’t depend on the world but depends on the only source that counts-God. A true Christian who was born again in Christ has this joy because it is one of the fruits of being in Christ. As Christ said, “By their fruits, you shall know them.” Here are the three reasons why you should be joyful even if the world says you shouldn’t be.

Reason #1: Where the world sees defeat, Christians see opportunities for faith

Every challenge that comes our way is really an invitation. They all ask the same basic question: are you going to be a victim or a victor? With Christ, we are all victors. He has given us the victory. We only need to claim it. Every seeming defeat is an opportunity to let ourselves and the world know that Jesus is in charge and he has the very best in store for us. It is an opportunity to show true faith.

Reason #2: Challenges are blessings waiting to be chosen

Too many people pray for the removal of challenges instead of praying for Jesus to change their character. In most cases, this is the bigger blessing. With no change in character, the same challenges will appear again and again under different disguises. Get to the root of the problem by recognizing that challenges are blessings in the form of strengthening our character. This is something definitely worth being joyful about.

Reason #3: Abiding in Christ gives us all we need to live joyful lives

Abiding in Christ fills us with an eternal source of joy. We can be certain that this source will remain forever. It doesn’t disappear when times change. It isn’t fickle. Instead, it is patient, enduring, and seeks others. We can take joy in God’s love even if the world doesn’t always show us love, because at the end of time we know whose love matters the most.
