Devotional: 6 Reasons Why Waiting for God Is Worth It

The Alan Robertson quote above really brings hope. If we are going to pray to God and ask for His blessing, we must also accept that God has his own timetable. Let us face it; God is not a genie. You do not just rub a lamp, and then out comes God with the sole purpose to answer your wishes. No, it does not work that way. The fact of the matter is that God’s ways are not our ways; and if that is true, then His timetable is not necessarily our timetable. It is unavoidable that in many cases we have to wait for God to answer our prayers.

Below are six reasons why waiting for God is worth it. Please note that I am not saying that you should not doing anything while you pray or petition God, but you need to wait for the results. As the old saying goes, “When you are praying, make sure your feet are moving.” In other words, you should not just simply pray and just hope for a miracle. You should also take action, and these actions must be guided by faith. After all, faith without action is worthless.

God’s Main Focus Is Your Salvation

If it seems that God is taking forever to answer your your prayers, you need to have a broader frame of reference. While it is important that whatever financial challenges or help issues you are facing be resolved, there are other more pressing things, as far as God is concerned. Your salvation is the primary concern of God, and everything else pales in comparison. While it is true that the relationship issues, the health issues, and the money issues that you are in are challenging and hurt, God’s main focus is your salvation, so it is definitely worth waiting for God to answer.

Take the Opportunity to Trust That God Knows What is Best for You

Flowing naturally from the previous reason, God’s timetable also is informed by the fact that God knows what is best for us. It is a very common pattern for people to pray for the things that really do not do them much good in the big scheme of things. In other words, our priorities are not the same as God’s priorities. When God takes his time listening to our prayers, we are invited to take the opportunity to trust that He knows what is best for us.

Challenges are Often the Paths to True Change

If things go well for a person throughout his life and the person is not really challenged, it would be very hard for him to change. Believe it or not, the challenges that are happening in your life are actually blessings in disguise because they push you to the path of change that you need to adapt. If you are facing financial hardships, maybe it is because of past decisions that are reflections of your character. And in many cases, the hardship is the thing needed to make you realize that you need to change certain things about your character. Viewed from this perspective, we can conclude that waiting for God brings serious blessings which can make those character changes that help us later on.

Waiting Builds Your Patience

There are many traits that Christians have to develop. We need to be gentle, we need to be faithful, we need to be meek, and we need to be kind. Among these important virtues is patience. When we are waiting for God to answer our prayers, it gives us the opportunity to build our patience. Again, we can look at waiting as a challenge; but if you really look at it close enough, this challenge packs a blessing.

God Is Always Working On Your Character

There are many reasons for God to take His time answering our prayer. You can be rest assured that these are good reasons. You can be rest assured that this is for the best of our interest. One possible consideration is that God is working on our character. You have to remember that a real Christian life is a life of transformation. You start out angry, frustrated, and spiteful; and when you let Jesus Christ Work on your heart, you become more loving, patient, and kind. In fact, the news that the Bible is filled with contains such examples of transformation. The Apostle John started out as hot tempered and angry, and then he became one of the most patient and loving among the disciples. God is looking to work that same miracle in your heart if you let Him. Waiting is definitely a key part of that.

Waiting Is an Act Of Faith

I put this as the last because it is the most important. Hopefully, when you walk away from this article, this is the lesson that you would remember best. Waiting for Christ to work on your life and to deliver blessings in your life is an act of faith. A lot of Christians like to claim that they have faith, but as we learn from the book of James that faith without works is dead faith, and the best way you can work out your faith and really reflect your faith based on how you deal with things is to wait, you live out your faith when you are waiting.

Conclusion

You must trust God so much that you are willing to wait for Him. Instead of blaming Him, instead of being angry, instead of being bitter, or instead of losing hope, you wait, and wait, and wait. It is one of the purest acts of faith that you can do. Of course, as I have mentioned earlier, you also have to take action. You cannot just pray and pray; your feet and hands must also be moving.

Keep the six reasons above in mind whenever you feel that God is taking His time. If God is taking His time in your life, it is for a good reason. Put your faith that way.
