3 Things That Worry Says To God

How do you think God feels about our worrying over things in this life? Here’s what I think it means to God.

I Don’t Trust You God

Imagine if you are a parent and your child keeps coming to you and saying “Hey, what if we run out of money to pay our heating bill this winter and freeze? What if we run out of food and starve to death? I’m worried about losing our home and ending up sleeping on the street!?” How would that make you feel knowing that you, your spouse, or both of you are working to make sure that never happens? Wouldn’t it seem like your child doesn’t trust you enough to provide for them? It’s sort of an insult to you in a way so how much worse is it when we worry over things and reveal our lack of trust in Him? It’s like telling God, I don’t’ trust you…I can only count on myself. Surely that doesn’t please God because without faith, we cannot possibly please Him (Heb 11:6).

I Only Trust Myself

If I am continually wringing my hands over how I am to get by every day, I am really saying that I only trust these hands of mine. That’s what I’m telling God when I worry that He won’t provide…I cannot trust You God, I can only trust my own resources (these hands) so it’s no wonder that I worry. Proverbs 28:26 doesn’t speak well of those who trust in themselves at it says “He who trusts in his own heart is a fool, But he who walks wisely will be delivered.” Instead I must learn to “Trust in the LORD with all [my] heart and do not lean on [my] own understanding” (Prov 3:5).

I am Sovereign

If I’m not trusting in God then I’m telling God that I am really the one who is in charge of my own world. If I cannot trust God and can only trust myself, then I am making myself sovereign over my life and not Who really is sovereign. By worrying I make myself sit on the throne of my own world and ignore the many Bible verses that are contrary to what I believe to be true by my lack of trust; “Our God is in the heavens; he does all that he pleases” (Psalm 115:3), “The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps” (Prov 16:9) and “Many are the plans in the mind of a man, but it is the purpose of the Lord that will stand” (Prov 19:21). By staying in and living in a constant state of worry I make these verses read “I establish my own steps, it is my purpose that will stand,” and “I do all that I please.” I am not judging those who worry…I judge only myself for falling short in these areas.

Conclusion

If only I will let God be God and put my cares, concerns, and worries on His shoulders. These are things too heavy for me to carry. How about you?
