3 Circumstances Where God Strengthens Us

“Those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles.”

– Isaiah 40:31

When We Faint

If your hope is in God, then you are among those “who wait for the LORD” and who “shall renew their strength.” But Isaiah goes on to write, “They shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not grow weary (Isaiah 40:31).” They will walk and not faint because their hope is in the Lord. I was the best man at my friend’s wedding when he suddenly fainted. Thankfully, I was near enough to to catch him. So it is with all those who trust in God and whose hope is in Him.

When We Fail

It’s not really a matter of “if” we fail but “when” we fail because everyone has experienced at least some failures in life. But failures are never final. They are opportunities to soar, and God’s promise is He will “renew [your] strength” so you can try again at whatever it was that you failed at in the first place. God uses everything that happens to us in life and uses it for our own good and according to His will (Romans 8:28).

When We Fall

When the righteous fall, they get back up, just as the psalmist wrote, “The righteous falls seven times and rises again, but the wicked stumble in times of calamity” (Proverbs 24:16). The point is not that you’re only allowed to fall seven times, but the number seven is the number of completion; so God allows us to fall the exact number of times so that we’ll rise again. Undoubtedly, “many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the LORD delivers him out of them all” (Psalm 34:19).

Conclusion

Those of us who hope in the LORD are in a much better situation to deal with fainting, failing, and falling because we know that God is sovereign over our failures and falls. He knows what we are going through and wants us to hope in Him above all things. And hope in Him will keep you above all things.
