The Blessings of Salvation
If we understood the magnitude of Jesus’ sacrifice and that He died for us while we were ungodly, wicked sinners who were enemies of God (Romans 5:8-10), that show’s God’s great love. Can there be any greater blessing than receiving eternal life by the free gift of God (Ephesians 2:8-9)? I can’t think of one.
The Blessings of Family
The Bible teaches that children are a heritage from the Lord, a true gift of God. But I believe spouses are too. God is sovereign in our lives, and it is no accident that we met the spouse we love and had the children we do. We know that everything we have comes from God anyway, just as the Apostle Paul wrote, “What do you have that you did not receive? If then you received it, why do you boast as if you did not receive it” (1 Corinthians 4:7)?
The Blessing of Our Blessings
Not everyone in the world has a job, a home, a car, a refrigerator, or any of the other things we take for granted. So if you count the blessings of your salvation, your family, food, and shelter, then you are blessed above most of the world. If you are busy counting these many blessings, you won’t have to count your problems.
The Blessed Kingdom
There are far too many blessings to count that come when we enter the kingdom. But why not count the blessings of things that we won’t have in our lives anymore? Things like pain, suffering, sorrow, tears, and even death (Revelation 21:4). There will also be the end of sin in us. We shall finally be saved to sin no more. And as sick of sin as I am, in myself and in the world, the kingdom can’t get here soon enough.
Conclusion
Truly, if we concentrate on counting our blessings, we’ll have little time to count anything else. Count the blessings of your salvation, your family, your food and shelter, and the coming kingdom in which we get to see the Blesser Himself for the very first time (Revelation 21:3, 22:4).
