God’s Word
We know that God cannot deny Himself because He is faithful to His own Word. In fact, He is bound by His own Word. Isaiah the Prophet wrote of God, “By myself I have sworn; from my mouth has gone out in righteousness a word that shall not return: ‘To me every knee shall bow, every tongue shall swear allegiance’” (Isaiah 45:23) and the author of Hebrews wrote, “For when God made a promise to Abraham, since he had no one greater by whom to swear, he swore by himself” (Heb 6:13) so John 3:16 will always be true, no matter what happens.
God’s Son
Who is more faithful than the Son of God, doing what He promised and fulfilling what was written long ago by the prophets of old? Jesus said “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die. Do you believe this” (John 11:25-26)? You can rest in Jesus’ promises.
God’s Promises
The Apostle Peter, in writing about God, says “he has granted to us his precious and very great promises, so that through them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the corruption that is in the world because of sinful desire” (2nd Pet 1:4). What God promises, God delivers.
God’s Mercy
I would define mercy as this; God doesn’t give us what we deserve. Mercy is one of the greatest attributes of God. It is Who He is, however this mercy is only available to those who have repented and trusted in Him. He gives us what we don’t deserve (mercy) by His having placed His wrath upon the Son of God Who didn’t deserve it.
God’s Grace
Grace is beyond price but ironically, it is free. God’s grace is free to us but came at the supreme cost of His One and Only Unique Son, Jesus (John 3:15). It is only “by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast” (Eph 2:8-9). Thank God for that because you could never earn it in a billion lifetimes.
Conclusion
The author of Hebrews reminds you that God “will never leave you nor forsake you” (Heb 13:5b), even when you forsake Him. When we sin, He is faithful to forgive us and cleanse us of all unrighteousness (1st John 1:9) and that is something that He cannot go back on. He never lies and never breaks His Word and will never forsake us or never leave us, even when we, for a time, forsake and leave Him.
