5 Stories From The Bible About Animals In Heaven
Here are 5 stories from the Bible about animals in heaven.
A Child Shall Lead Them
Isaiah the Prophet looked ahead into the coming kingdom and wrote that someday, “The wolf shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the young goat, and the calf and the lion and the fattened calf together; and a little child shall lead them” (Isaiah 11:6). The arrival of the New Jerusalem brings with it peace and safety for all, and even a little child can lead the wolf and the lamb with no danger. Even the lion and leopard will be harmless in the coming kingdom.
The Wolf and the Lamb
Furthermore, Isaiah wrote that “The wolf and the lamb shall graze together; the lion shall eat straw like the ox, and dust shall be the serpent’s food. They shall not hurt or destroy in all my holy mountain,” says the LORD” (Isaiah 65:25). Today, if the lamb dwells with the wolf, it would be in the wolf’s stomach, but in the kingdom, even the nature of animals will be changed. Most of the carnivorous (meat-eaters) animals will suddenly eat straw like the ox. That’s radically different.
Laying Down in Safety
Hosea the Prophet looks ahead into the future when God says, “I will make for them a covenant on that day with the beasts of the field, the birds of the heavens, and the creeping things of the ground. And I will abolish the bow, the sword, and war from the land, and I will make you lie down in safety” (Hosea 2:18). That not only says there’ll be animals in the future, but also “creeping things” as they are a necessary part of the world’s eco-system, but at least everyone can “lie down in safety” without fears of getting bit by a “creeping thing.”
The White Horse
In the Apostle John’s vision, He says, “Then I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse! The one sitting on it is called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he judges and makes war” (Revelation 19:11). We cannot really use this verse to prove that there’ll be animals in the kingdom, although I think Isaiah’s already proven that already, but it is significant that Jesus Himself is riding a white horse and He comes to judge the world in righteousness.
Two Sparrows
When Jesus asked, “Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? And not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father” (Matthew 10:29), He was saying that God has concern, even for the tiny sparrows. They may seem of little value to us, but to God, His creatures do have value and should be treated humanely. And, if there are sparrows today, why wouldn’t there be sparrows in the kingdom?
I’ve been asked dozens of times if pets go to heaven. The answer is, I don’t know. The Bible is not crystal clear about specific animals. The most important matter is, “Will you be there?”
