5 Stories From The Bible About Baby Jesus
Here are 5 stories from the Bible about baby Jesus.
A Child is Born
Luke writes more about Jesus’ birth than the other gospel writers. Perhaps it’s because he is a doctor and doctors love details, but Luke’s also a historian, and a great one (see Book of Acts), so Luke the Physician and Luke the Historian wrote, “For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord” (Luke 2:11). Being “Christ the Lord” means Jesus was the fulfillment of the prophesied Messiah Who was to come and now has come, and will shortly establish His kingdom here on earth.
A Sign for You
If the shepherds in the field needed confirmation, they got it, because when they came to where Jesus was at…lying in the manger, it was confirmed because there He was….Jesus, wrapped in swaddling clothes. When the angels had told them before, “And this will be a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in swaddling cloths and lying in a manger” (Luke 2:12), they came to see it with their own eyes when “they went with haste and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby lying in a manger” (Luke 2:16). And they too worshipped Him.
A Son is Given
Isaiah wrote, “For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace” (Isaiah 9:6), and this was 1,000 years before Jesus Christ was born. And, in the original Hebrew, there are no commas in this name…meaning every bit of this is Jesus’ name. He is the “Wonderful Counselor Mighty God Everlasting Father Prince of Peace,” so a Son was given for us (and our sins); and a child is born “to us” and for us.
Becoming Flesh
Isaiah the Prophet wrote, “Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign. Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel” (Isaiah 7:14). First of all, no virgin had ever conceived; secondly, no child was called Immanuel, because that means, “God with us.” And God did come to be with us when the Word of God (Jesus Christ) took upon the flesh of man (John 1:14), not that He was sinful by nature. He came to save those who were sinners by nature but He had to do this by becoming flesh…being born of a virgin, meaning He had no Adamic sin nature in him as we all have.
Escaping to Egypt
Evil King Herod wanted to kill baby Jesus because He was said to be the coming King of the Jews, so when “Herod, when he saw that he had been tricked by the wise men, became furious, and he sent and killed all the male children in Bethlehem and in all that region who were two years old or under, according to the time that he had ascertained from the wise men” (Matthew 2:16). Thankfully, an angel had warned Joseph to take Mary and baby Jesus to Egypt so that He too would not be killed.
Baby Jesus, born in a stable or cave, and in a feeding trough, was born in such humble surroundings, but someday He is coming again in great splendor, majesty, power and glory…and may God speed that day.
