5 Stories From The Bible About Asking For Help
Here are 5 stories from the Bible about asking for help.
Ask, Seek, Knock
The great wisdom that Jesus tells us is that we must “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you” (Matthew 7:7). We may not have because we may not have asked, but if we ask, and don’t receive, keep on seeking unto you find a door to knock on, and then by all means, knock! If it opens for you, you know its God’s will. If it doesn’t, you know it’s for the best.
In His Name
We can ask for something in someone’s name, like picking up something for someone, but if we ask in Jesus’ name, there’s more potential in our asking. We call that prayer, so “Whatever you ask in my name, this I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask me anything in my name, I will do it” (John 14:13-14). The key is this; if what we ask or pray for will glorify God, then God’s likely going to answer that prayer, but if it doesn’t glory God but brings glory to us, surely we know not to pray for that. It’s also important that we pray through Jesus’ name because He has 24/7 access to the Father.
From the Lord
Our help my come from the Lord, but the Lord may use others as a means to be a help. We can’t reject the help that other Christian’s offer us and believe that God will take care of it, because God often uses others as a means to do help us (Matt 25:35-36), but in the overall sense, we know that “My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth” (Psalm 121:2).
Come to Jesus
Why we try to stress about tomorrow before it ever comes is beyond me…and saying that, I do it too, but it’s so natural to worry about how tomorrow may turn out, but it sure robs all the joy out of today. Jesus tells you and He tells me, “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28). He alone can give us rest and can help us carry the uncertain future over which we have no control.
Being With You
When my son was young, he was afraid of the dark. Even today, there are millions of adults who are afraid of the dark, so I got him a night light and that soothed him enough so that he could go to sleep. The room was still dark, but that little light was with him. In similar fashion, we have no reason to fear the darkness of the night. God says through Isaiah, “Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand” (Isaiah 41:10).
It’s actually a good thing to ask for help, but if our pride gets in the way, we’ll be hesitant to ask anyone for anything, but we are told to ask, seek, and knock, and to pray in Jesus’ name. That’s the best way to ask for help…through Jesus’ potent, mighty, and powerful name and praying for God’s will to be done.
