5 Stories From The Bible About Bad Days
Here are 5 stories from the Bible about having a bad day.
No Comparison
If you were to compare today with yesterday, maybe it’s better today…or worse today than yesterday, but no matter what you face today or have faced today, the Apostle Paul encourages by telling us that He considers “that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us” (Romans 8:18). Someday in the kingdom, we might see with an eternal perspective, but today, we just see into the kingdom through a dark glass, but in reality, today’s troubles will have no weight in the kingdom because of the joy that will be off the charts.
Don’t Give Up
When a lady was swimming the English Channel, it was foggy…so she finally gave up, but when she got into the boat, she saw the English shore, and thought if only she’d swam another couple of miles. If she had seen the shore, she might not have given up, so brother and sister, “let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up” (Galatians 6:9).
According to His Riches
Since God takes care of the sparrows of the air, even though they are of little value to most of us, how much more will God provide for us who are of greater value to Him? The Apostle Paul was sure that “my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:13). If it were according to my riches, you’d be in trouble, but it’s according to His riches. God has all the resources of the universe! I don’t.
Walking by Faith
When I get up at night, I can barely see for a while, so I walk by faith, knowing where the coffee table and chair is at, and even the light switch. In a similar fashion, “we walk by faith, not by sight” (2 Corinthians 5:7). We don’t know what’s around the corner of time, but God does, and that should be enough for us.
All Things
Whatever happens, we are told that it must first pass through the nail-scarred hands of Jesus Christ, so we can say with confidence that “we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose” (Romans 8:28). God will not let something happen to us unless it is for our best, and that includes everything, or “all things.”
We can trust God with our bad days. Pour out your heart and cry out to Him. He is as near to you as your own breath. He is always ready to hear from you so unload every burden. As Jesus said, “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls” (Matthew 11:28-29).
