5 Stories From The Bible About Confidence
Here are 5 stories from the Bible about confidence.
Our Confidence
Solomon wisely said, “For the Lord will be your confidence and will keep your foot from being caught” (Proverbs 3:26), so where is our confidence? Is it in man, in you, in your money, in others, your job…or in the securest of all places? Is our confidence is in the Lord Jesus Christ? The Psalmist rightly said, “Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God” (Psalm 20:7).
He is With You
My son was afraid of the dark, like many children were, but when I was in the room with him, he was not afraid…even if it was totally dark. Now consider God’s Word to us: “Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand” (Isaiah 41:10). Since God is with us there’s no reason to be dismayed or fearful…even in the dark.
Confidence before God
If you have a guilty conscience, it’s probably because you did something you shouldn’t have, or you should have done something you didn’t do, but we must remember that “whenever our heart condemns us, God is greater than our heart, and he knows everything. Beloved, if our heart does not condemn us, we have confidence before God” (1 John 3:20-21). Will we be confident when we see Jesus? Wil we shrink back at His appearing? Apparently, some will as John writes, “little children, abide in him, so that when he appears we may have confidence and not shrink from him in shame at his coming” (1 John 2:28).
Christ Strengthens Us
The verse “I can do all things through him who strengthens me” (Philippians 4:13) has encouraged millions of believers. Or course, the opposite must also be true: we can do nothing without Christ strengthening us. Jesus said we can do nothing without Him (John 15:5), and nothing is not a little something! It’s zilch. And that should humble us and make us even more reliant upon Him, and by the way, that’s what He desires for us anyway.
The Lord our Helper
If you are a child of God, you have the Lord God on your side, “So we can confidently say, “The Lord is my helper; I will not fear; what can man do to me” (Hebrews 13:6)? It’s better to place your confidence in the only One Who can help you…the only One Who will be with you through thick and thin. He is the Lord your helper, so why fear what man can do?
We must remember that we are not “sufficient in ourselves to claim anything as coming from us, but our sufficiency is from God” (2 Corinthians 3:5), and what comes from God is sufficient for all things, no matter what it looks like (Romans 8:28). If you are confident in God, that means you have trust in God, and without faith you cannot even please God (Hebrews 11:6).
