5 Stories From The Bible About Abundance

Here are 5 stories from the Bible that relate to abundance.

Seeking God First

Our ideas of abundance and God’s idea of abundance is not the same thing.  For example, all the riches that could be found are found in Jesus Christ.  Can anything compare to the value of your own human soul?  What would you exchange for it?  When you grow in need of something, remember Jesus’ wise words:  We must “seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you” (Matthew 6:33).  I believe “all things” just about covers it.

In Good Measure

When people are abundantly blessed, it’s often because they’ve given abundant blessing others.  There is a cause and effect in giving.  Jesus said that when we “Give, and it will be given to you. Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap. For with the measure you use it will be measured back to you” (Luke 6:38).  The mental image this verse gives me is that you’re shaking the sack so that more can get it, and then you’re pressing it down to get even more in, and finally, it’s running over into your lap, but that’s written only to those who have been giving.

Supply Every Need

What resources you have and what resources God has are incomparable.  He not only owns the cattle on a thousand hills, He owns the hills!   Take a look around you and ask yourself, where did it all come from?  What do you see that you did not receive from God or has been created by God (1 Corinthians 4:7)?   That’s why the Apostle Paul can boldly proclaim that “my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:19).

Barns Will Be Filled

Only empty hands can receive things, while clinched fists cannot.  The principle is, when we have an open hand…made open by giving to others, it is only then that our hands can receive back from God.  Of course, we don’t give in order to get; we are blessed because we give.   It may not be money that you are blessed with, but blessings do abound when we freely give to God and others.  It is only then that “your barns will be filled with plenty, and your vats will be bursting with wine” (Proverbs 3:10).

Inherit the Earth

I have never inherited much of anything in life, but if you are a believer, you have an inheritance unlike any other.   The psalmist wrote that “the meek shall inherit the land and delight themselves in abundant peace” (Psalm 37:11).  This is very close to what Jesus our Lord said in Matthew 5:5, saying, “Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth” (Matthew 5:5).  Jesus must have shocked many who were listening, but it is true, nonetheless.

There is abundance in knowing the Lord Jesus Christ.  He grants us eternal life.  This allows us to avoid the wrath of God, but more so, He grants us the coming Kingdom of God to be with Him in His reign over the kingdom.  There is nothing greater in abundance than that.
