Everyone has to eat. Everyone has to work. Everyone has to take care of themselves. This is all indisputable. This applies to all human beings. The difference between people who are happy, who feel fulfilled, who feel complete, and live each life with meaning is not what you think. It is not the amount of money they make. The difference does not lie in how much respect or status they get doing what they do. The difference can’t even be found in the glamor the world finds in their lives. Nope. The difference between truly fulfilled people who live life to the fullest and those barely hanging on regardless of their material and status rewards often boils down to one thing: passion. If, as Mother Teresa noted, you do small things with a lot of love-with a lot of passion-you will live a life worth living.
Most people live lives of quiet desperation
Let’s not beat around the bush-if you look around you, you’d notice that most people live lives of regret. They chose the wrong career. They chose the wrong spouse. They chose the wrong path in life. They chose the wrong lifestyle. They are unhappy deep down inside, and they know it. This is why there is so much projection and so much displacement in modern life. This is why entertainment has taken on such an unhealthy role in the lives of most people because they are desperate filling up the hole in their lives with stuff that never satisfies. This is why people are often looking for the latest and greatest stuff. They are constantly looking to be entertained for a few minutes more-before the inadequacy and emptiness of it all catches up to them and they search for more and more stuff to fill up their lives.
Focus on what you’re doing and do it with love
The good news is that a fulfilling life can’t be had with stuff outside of you. Fulfillment, purpose, and contentment aren’t products you pick off a shelf at a store somewhere. Instead, you can choose to change your mind set about your life and focus to be motivated by love and passion. The difference is like day and night. Not only will you feel better about yourself, you might even get that raise or promotion that you thought was impossible. Not only will you get a renewed sense of purpose and a spring in your step, your relationships might even reach higher levels of happiness and satisfaction.
