5 Stories From The Book Of Isaiah
Here are 5 short stories from the Book of Isaiah
The Lord Saves – Isaiah 49
Far too many people I speak with believe that they’ve done too much in their lives to ever be forgiven, but Isaiah has a great response to that. He wrote, “Behold, the Lord’s hand is not shortened, that it cannot save, or his ear dull, that it cannot hear” (Isaiah 49:1). In other words, salvation does not depend on the recipient (Ephesians 2:7-8), but upon the One Who offers it. Jesus said “that whoever believes in him may have eternal life” (John 3:15).
A Son is Given – Isaiah 9
When Jesus was born into the flesh (John 1)…it was glory veiled in flesh, for He is both Man (a child is born) and God (the Son of God), so Isaiah wrote, “For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace” (Isaiah 9:6). Jesus was born, lived a sinless life, suffered and died, and then arose on the 3rd day. He was born to be given…for our sakes (2 Corinthians 5:21).
Our Sin Bearer – Isaiah 53
The Scriptures teach that God is near to the hurting and knows what it’s like to suffer in the flesh. Jesus should know for He Himself suffered, but He also “has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted. But he was wounded for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his stripes we are healed” (Isaiah 53:4-5). He was born, to be given, to be our sin-bearer.
Separated by Sin – Isaiah 59
Most people who are not saved don’t even realize that they’re presently separated from God. It’s not them necessarily, but it’s their sins that separate them from God. Isaiah the prophet speaks to all humanity, saying that “your iniquities have made a separation between you and your God, and your sins have hidden his face from you so that he does not hear” (Isaiah 59:2). Jesus bridged that separation by His own body.
Renewing Your Strength – Isaiah 40
When you feel like you can’t go on and you’re not getting an answer from God, it’s time to run to the Lord in prayer and claim His great and precious promises from Scripture. One such promise is that “they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint” (Isaiah 40:31), so the key to renewing your strength is waiting on the Lord…waiting for His timing.
Isaiah the Prophet
Isaiah the Prophet was one of Jesus’ favorite authors to quote from the Old Testament. This book shows that He was the fulfillment of the prophesied Messiah. Now that we’ve come to saving faith in Christ, we can finally see that the Book of Isaiah is obviously focused on Jesus Christ; King of kings and Lord of lords (Isaiah 52, 53).
