5 Stories From The Bible About Anniversaries And Special Occasions
Here are 5 short stories from the Bible about anniversaries and special occasions.
A Helper – Genesis 2
Adam had it all…he was in Paradise and had everything he needed, but what he was missing was someone for companionship, so “the Lord God said, “It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper fit for him” (Genesis 2:18). When God made Eve from one of Adam’s ribs, it may be indicative that she is to stand next to him in this life, and the two are made stronger than one alone.
Loved his Wife
Jacob proved his love by toiling for another seven years after he was tricked into marrying Rachel’s older sister, but “Jacob loved Rachel. And he said, “I will serve you seven years for your younger daughter Rachel” (Genesis 29:18). Jacob knew from experience that “Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their toil” (Ecclesiastes 4:9), meaning that God did not intend for us to go through life alone.
Leave and Cleave – Mark 10
In the Garden, God married the first couple of humanity, saying that “a man shall leave his father and mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.’ So they are no longer two but one flesh” (Mark 10:7-8). Jesus in talking about marriage, almost quoted word for word the Scripture in Genesis 2:24, which said, “Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.” The man is to leave his old family and to cleave to his wife and no other.
Time Flies – Genesis 29
I’ve heard that time flies when you’re having fun, so with that thought in mind, it shouldn’t surprise us that time flied for Jacob as he labored a total of 14 years…seven for Lean, but seven more for Rachel, “So Jacob served seven years for Rachel, and they seemed to him but a few days because of the love he had for her” (Genesis 29:20).
Falling but Lifted Up – Ecclesiastes 4
When a spouse gets down, either with depression, sickness, or some other problem, their spouse is there to help pick them up again. The Book of Ecclesiastes says, “For if they fall, one will lift up his fellow. But woe to him who is alone when he falls and has not another to lift him up” (Ecclesiastes 4:10), and “if two lie together, they keep warm, but how can one keep warm alone” (Ecclesiastes 4:11). Scripture proves we were made for relationship.
Final Thoughts on Special Occasions
Whatever special occasion or anniversary you have coming up, God’s Word has much to say about such special occasions, and most of it is that we were made for one another; we were created to have relationship; and when God joins a couple together, they become one and with it’s with the intention that it will be “till death do” they part.
