5 Stories From The Bible For Offering A Prayer
Here are 5 great stories from the Bible for offering a prayer.
Pray About Everything
Whatever we are worrying about today, we ought to be bringing it up to God in prayer. God tells us, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God” (Philippians 4:6). Pray about everything that’s going on, but then be thankful in prayer. Once you’ve made your request “known to God,” the anxiety should be over. Let God take care of it.
Confessing Our Sins
Confessing our faults and sins to one another breaks down barriers and the transparency lets us see others who are also struggling in some area, just as we are. I believe that’s healthy for the Body of Christ. James said it is good to “confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working” (James 5:16). You won’t confess your sins if you’re not humble, and God is near the humble and opposed to the proud (James 4:6).
Persistent Prayer
The fact that we’re told to pray about everything (Philippians 4:6) means we’ll probably be praying a lot, so we must ”Pray without ceasing” (1 Thessalonians 5:17). This isn’t a 24/7 prayer time, but taking opportunities throughout the day to pray about whatever is on your mind. Some things are more important than others…and we pray more about them than others, but that’s as it should be. Pray always and without ceasing because we unceasingly need His help.
Pray for His Will
If you know enough Scripture, you can know what God’s will is. For example, we know its God’s will that none should perish (Ezekiel 18:23, 32, 33:11; 1 Timothy 2:4; 2 Peter 3:9), so pray for someone to be saved that you know. The Apostle John wrote, “And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us” (1 John 5:14). God will hear our prayers for our lost friend or family member; it is God’s will for all to be saved. There you go! Find the will of God, and pray for that on earth!
Cleansed From Sin
The idea of blotting something out of a book is probably foreign to us, but in ancient times when they made a mistake in a book, ledger, or other record, they would blot it out and write over it. This makes the repentance prayer of King David a lot more understandable, as he wrote, “according to your abundant mercy blot out my transgressions. Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin” (Psalm 51:1b-2a). Just like David, we can confess our sins and be cleansed of all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9).
