5 Stories From The Bible For Those Being Mistreated
Here are 5 stories from the Bible for those who are being mistreated.
Mistreated for Us
There is no one more qualified to know what it’s like to be mistreated than the Son of God, Jesus Christ. He took the wrath of God that was due us, and laid those strokes upon Christ (Isaiah 53) and not us. Thank God that it was “For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God” (2 Corinthians 5:21).
Hearing from Heaven
When Sarah told Abraham to make Hagar and her son leave, she took the child and headed out…weeping along the way. When it appeared the boy would die of thirst, the boy began to cry out, so “God heard the voice of the boy, and the angel of God called to Hagar from heaven and said to her, “What troubles you, Hagar? Fear not, for God has heard the voice of the boy where he is” (Genesis 21:17). When Hagar had been mistreated, God promised to make of her son a great nation…the Father of the Arab nation (Genesis 21:13). This gave her and her son a hope for the future, but also for the present, as God provided a life-giving well of water (Genesis 21:19).
Restoration
In the early church, there were apparently very judgmental brothers and sisters, and not just in Galatia (see Romans 3; 1 Corinthians 11). There is no other reason that the Apostle Paul would have told the church at Galatia that “if anyone is caught in any transgression, you who are spiritual should restore him in a spirit of gentleness. Keep watch on yourself, lest you too be tempted” (Galatians 6:1). Since God was kind and gentle to us, forgiving us of our sins, and reconciling us back to God, how can we be so hard on others who have fallen into sin? Even so, it’s right to go to our brother or sister to help them, pray for them, and love them, in the hopes of restoring them.
The Crown of Life
You may not believe it, but every believer will receive a crown on Judgment Day; the crown of life…signifying eternal life, or perhaps a crown of suffering, so even though you’re being mistreated today, think about what’s coming. Are you under great duress? James says, “Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him” (James 1:12).
Upheld by Him
I can tell you that I’ve blown it big time…and maybe you have too, but if you’ve been mistreated, rest assured that even “though he fall, he shall not be cast headlong, for the Lord upholds his hand” (Psalm 37:4). If we fall, we fall right into His hand! That’s a great place to land, isn’t it!? Our God is so good.
