5 Stories From The Bible About God’s Goodness
Here are 5 great stories from the Bible about God’s goodness.
God is Good – Mark 10
A young man had just came up to Jesus and called him “Good Teacher” (Mark 10:17 but shockingly, “Jesus said to him, “Why do you call me good? No one is good except God alone” (Mark 10:18). The Bible is clear that none of us are good…not, not even one of us (Rom 3:10-12), so to say we are good people is unbiblical, but to say God is good is spot on accuracy.
The Lord is Good – Psalm 34
The psalmist knew that God was good to him. Time after time God had proven His faithfulness to him, so he wrote, “Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good! Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him” (Psalm 34:8)! God is good because of His manifold blessings that He showers upon His children. So good that you can taste it, but He’s also good in the sense that we can run to Him as a refuge in time of need. Indeed, the Lord is good…all the time.
God’s Kindness
If we look at repentance biblically, we see that God is the One Who grants us repentance (Acts 5:31, 11:18; 2 Timothy 2:24-26), so how could we ever “presume on the riches of his kindness and forbearance and patience, not knowing that God’s kindness is meant to lead you to repentance” (Romans 2:4)? Jesus said we are to repent and believe (Mark 1:15), but God grants us the ability to repent and to believe (Matthew 16:17), so what God demands, God supplies out of His kindness.
Nothing Good Withheld – Psalm 84
Employers, or friends, or even your spouse might withhold something that would be good for us…maybe something we even deserve, but “the Lord God is a sun and shield; the Lord bestows favor and honor. No good thing does he withhold from those who walk uprightly” (Psalm 84:11). When we are walking in integrity, God promises to withhold “no good thing” from us. What a good God we serve and worship.
Goodness and Mercy – Psalm 23
David wrote the 23 Psalm and wrote it from experience, saying, “Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever” (Psalm 23:6). Part of God’s goodness is His everlasting mercy because of what Jesus has done for us. Because He gave His life as a ransom for many (Mark 10:45), we know we will “dwell in the house of the Lord forever,” so goodness and mercy will follow us all the days of our life, but these will also follow us into eternity.
God is Good
