5 Stories From The Bible For Christian Businesses
Here are 5 stories from the Bible for Christian businesses.
The Employer’s Master
Today, there are no slave owners in the nation, but at one time, about 1/3rd of the Roman population were slaves, so when the Apostle Paul wrote to the Colossians, he said, “Masters, treat your bondservants justly and fairly, knowing that you also have a Master in heaven” (Colossians 4:1). In our culture, we could say that employers should treat their employees “justly and fairly” since they too “have a Master in heaven.”
Faithful in Little
God is sovereign and if a Christian business owner is a good steward, God will bless them. Jesus said that “One who is faithful in a very little is also faithful in much, and one who is dishonest in a very little is also dishonest in much” (Luke 16:10). If you are a good steward today, with little or much, Jesus knows you will be faithful in much, which means the coming Kingdom.
Delight in Equity
There is no excuse for a business committing fraud. The laws are clear enough, but even so, many businesses fail because of corrupt practices. Any such practices anger God. He says, “A false balance is an abomination to the LORD, but a just weight is his delight” (Proverbs 11:1). Delighting in equity while abhorring falsehood is the best way to run any business, Christian or not.
All Your Might
All you can do is do the best with what you’ve got, and God will bless the fruit of your labor if you are diligent in your labors. We are all command, “Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with your might, for there is no work or thought or knowledge or wisdom in Sheol, to which you are going” (Ecclesiastes 9:10). Whatever God does, He does perfectly and completely, but a half-hearted effort will come back to haunt you.
Commit Your Work
To be committed to something is like being unable to escape from it. If you are committed to God and His Word, you will automatically “Commit your work to the LORD, and your plans will be established” (Proverbs 16:3). It’s a natural consequence of committing all of your work unto God is having your plans established by the Lord. Commit to honesty, integrity, fairness, and equity and your business plans should be established by God Himself.
